Daily Quote

When working with a team, it is important to understand the different types of "working as a team." There is the coming together, which is a good beginning. Being able to come together as a group is a good start. But it isn't teamwork if everyone else is playing games while you do all the work. You're still together, good start, but it isn't quite teamwork. Keeping together is a good progress. If the group will stay with you and not just leave, that is a good progress. But, even if they are following your words and listening to you and staying with you, you could have still been the person who did all of the research and all of the work and now you are presenting it so they have an idea of what is actually going on. Sorry, but this still isn't teamwork. Working together is success. If everyone is contributing equally and getting the job done and no single person is doing too much or too little, everyone is together, and everyone is keeping together, that's teamwork. This took me years and years and years to figure out, and my natural instincts still get to me a bit when working in a team. Sometimes I still end up with a group of slackers and I end up doing things all by myself. But sometimes I get a great group and we can all work together. Teamwork is crazy in that way. If you are trying to do it right, someone else will always be there to not do anything. When you get a good group, though, work together. Even if you don't have a good group of people, teach them to work together. Then, they will be able to work together always.
