Daily Quote

"Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet."
-Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Waiting is a very difficult thing for humans to do. We just want what we want when we want it. We don't want to have to wait for something we want badly, especially if it is so close... yet so far away. But patience really pays off. If you wait for things, the result could be great. For example, if your company was in a down time and you wanted to make a big change, it might be best to save it for when your company is doing better. If you save it for later, it might positively impact your group. But if you made it sooner, it might just be too much for your group to handle.

Quote of the day

"Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow."
-Hellen Keller
Look on the bright side of things, and it will become harder to see the negative side. Always keep your face to the sunshine, and you will find that people might just like you a bit better.

Quote of the day

"The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit."
Rushing into things is never a very good idea. For example, rushing to do your work/homework/job so you can be free to do what you like is not a very good idea. The quality of your work is not going to be the best it can be. But when you take it slow and give it your all, this is when your best work will show.

Daily Quote

"For every minute you remain angry, you give up 60 seconds of peace of mind."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Every minute you are angry is a minute of your life wasted. Be happy and make your life mean something. Anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering. Don't suffer, just be happy and have peace.

Daily Quote

"Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."
If you don't let go of your boiling anger quickly enough, it just might burn you. Keeping it is like holding a hot coal, because in the end it only hurts you. You might think that you are making yourself feel better by making others feel worse, but you are only ruining your own reputation and what others think of you and more things like that. You are only hurting yourself.

Blankets for the Patients at the Hospital

Recently, I have been making blankets for the patients in the hospital. These blankets are for patients both children and adults. They are just small knit blanket 'lovies' for them to hold, little soft things to comfort them. I talked to the NCL (National Charity League) president for my league, and she talked to the hospital, and they decided it was a great idea.

So far, I have made 4 blankets of 3 different sizes. first, I have 2 9x9s made with a super soft light blue, white and light green yarn.

Next, I used a different technique and made a different size. It is an 8x8 made with the same material of yarn, this time pink, purple and white.

After I made the 8x8, I made (using the same pink, purple and white yarn) another. This time it is roughly 11x11. My mom and I have decided that this is the right size for future reference.

Here is the comparison of the two pink purple and white ones:

Since I have run out of the blue, green, and white yarn and I am very close to finishing the pink, purple, and white one as well, I will be using my teal colored yarn for my next blanket. Now that I have got the size figured out, I am excited to be making more blankets in the future!

The brand of yarn seen in the above blankets is called Bernat® Baby Blanket™. It is super soft and I highly recommend it for any knitting/crochet project.

The brand I will be using for my teal colored blanket will be Loops & Threads™Charisma™.
I am excited for more projects in the future, and later I will do a post on the looms I used to make these blankets. They are a simple and easy way to knit without using knitting sticks! Just to give you all an idea, the looms look like this.

Quote of the day

"Don't make yourself a mouse or the cat will eat you."
Don't just be shy in the corner, for the world will swallow you whole. Get out there and make a difference in the world. You will be surprised with your results!

Quote of the day

"Life is a big canvas, throw all the paint on it you can."
-Danny Kaye
This is another variation of the idea that life is short so we should live as if there is no tomorrow. This is true. Try not to do something that you will regret later. It might not be able to be fixed. Don't hurt your loved ones, they might not be there tomorrow to accept your apology. But since life is so precious and short, throw as much of the paint on your canvas of life as you possibly can, but at the same time as you do so, be careful and make good decisions.

Daily Quote

Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome."
-Booker T. Washington
In order to truly be successful, you must work towards it. Success isn't just handed to you on a silver plate. Success isn't a place where you are put to be successful. Success has to be worked at. You can't measure success by the position in life you are in, because that might not accurately show your success. We are measured more on the things we have done. The obstacles we've overcome. Success is something that can only be measured by what you've done.

Daily Quote

"Cherish your human connections- your relationships with your friends and family."
-Barbara Bush
As humans, we can make friends and have good relationships with our family. Since life is so short, we need to cherish these connections. They won't live forever, and neither will you. Live each day as if it is your last and savor your human connections until the very end.

Quote of the day

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Don't follow the main path of life where everyone goes. This path will have been used so many times that it is an old, crumbly path. Instead, make your own trail to your own life, and lead a new and stronger path for others such as your family and descendants to follow. Make better choices for yourself and those who will follow after you.

Quote of the day

"Failure is simply the opportunity to start again, this time more intelligently."
-Henry Ford
Every time you make a mistake, it just gives you the knowledge to do it better next time. It gives you the chance to start over, but know more about what you are doing for future reference.

Daily Quote

"Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country."
-Anais Nin
Dreams are the start of all things wonderful. If you let your dreams loose, you never know what the world might make of them. But it is a risk worth taking. You never know what might come from your dream; it can bring you a new life, a new friend, and even a new love. In this quote there is also a reference to a new country. This is only because Anais Nin was born in France to Spanish-Cuban parents, but let loose her dreams which brought her to America where she became a US author. Dreams can take you places beyond your wildest imagination. Let your dreams fly, and you just might like what they bring back for you.

Daily Quote

"There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered."
-Nelson Mandela
To me, this quote is very much like returning to home after camp. My room wasn't changed since I left. The family room wasn't changed. Nothing was changed, but adjusting back to the normal ways of life will really show you how you have changed. Coming home from a camp in the mountains, I found that I am physically stronger now. I am also mentally stronger- after sleeping in rustic cabins, I don't really find many different types of bugs disturbing. In fact, black ants and inch worms are very pleasant company out in the middle of the mountains on a 3 day backpacking trip (backpacking is hiking to a destination then sleeping there).  Also, I feel more connected with nature around me. A month without electronics really does change your opinions on things you may already enjoy such as outdoor physical exercise, reading, and entertaining yourself in ways other than electronics.

Camp has changed me for the better, but there is no place like home.

Quote of the day

"A smile is a curve that sets everything straight."
-Phyllis Diller
A simple smile can really make someone's day so much better. It can be the burst of sunshine through the clouds of someone's heart when they are sad or lonely or hurt. A smile is more than just a curve on your face- it is something that can greatly impact others from the inside out. You never know, but smiling at someone could completely make their day and make them smile too. A smile is one of the few things that can be spread to many people without reducing the amount of the original smile!

I'm back!

Hello, everyone! I am back from camp- and ready to start back up again! In about 2 weeks I will be leaving again shortly for a family wedding, but after that, I will be up and running for a while until my next break. Thanks for your patience, and I look forward to more inspiration in the future!

And please, if you have any quotes you want to suggest, I am completely open to suggestions. Thank you so much, I love you all!
