What we get is how we make a living. Our income that we get is so that we can pay for basic necessities. But what we give is what our life is. You can be old Ebenezer Scrooge and give nothing and do nothing for the good of others, and see how your life turns out then. But if you give back to the world, your life will be so much better. You not only will not be hated by everyone, but you will make a difference in the world.
