Building a reputation is difficult. It is way more difficult than ruining a reputation. Humans tend to remember the bad things that happened. Most people will be able to tell you about that annoying or mean kid in elementary school. The bad things stick, which makes it so much harder to erase bad reputations. And you can be a wonderful person that everybody likes. But you do one thing and there goes your reputation! Proving you are smart versus ignorant is the same. You have to do a lot to show that you are smart. You can't just have one lucky test grade and people think you are smart. You have to repetitively do smart things to give yourself a smart reputation. But it doesn't take much to show signs of ignorance!
